MultiVid is a multi-screen synchronization playback solution tailored for iPhone and iPod Touch devices, primarily aimed at facilitating economical and coordinated playback in theatrical performances and for visual artists. Its design emphasizes reliable synchronization of video content across multiple devices without resorting to centralized video processing systems.

The software supports QuickTime-encoded MP4 files, which can be triggered to play simultaneously across numerous iPods/iPhones and external displays. Triggering can be initiated either directly from an iPhone or iPod Touch or through an external OS X control application, available as a separate download at marcotempest.com/multivid.

One of the notable features of MultiVid is its multi-screen synchronization capability, allowing any number of devices to operate in unison. While initial synchronization accuracy is approximately 500 milliseconds, it can be improved to under 50 milliseconds by utilizing the network time server integrated into the OS X Controller application.

Key features include:

• Use of OS X server software to upload video files to connected devices (additional download required)
• Playback triggering via iPhone/iPod Touch or through the OS X server software
• Display of video content either on the device screen or on external displays (external display connection requires an Apple video output cable)
• Support for triggering through OSC API via TCP/UDP protocols
• Automatic device discovery when all devices and the server are on the same WiFi network, requiring no manual configuration

System requirements involve:

1. A host computer running OS X for uploading video content and operating the server software (note that the server software itself is not necessary for playback)
2. A WiFi network linking all devices and the host computer
3. One iPhone or iPod Touch per display surface
4. Apple video cables for external display connectivity
